pairing harris hawks

Post by Sophie on Wed Jan 30, 2008 6:12 pm

im feeling proud of using all this thread virginity!

need some advise about pairing my harries up for breeding (fingers crossed)
both fly and hunt well with other harrises and together and have both been in avairies directly next to each other for over a month. both are pig fat. however on introtuding them into a new avairy together a couple of days ago my male keeps bullys the female so ive had to seperate them again..
any ideas???

Thats some male bullying a female, did you put the female into the males aviary, and if so has he been in there along time? you could try puting them in a different aviary, some males can look like they are bullying sophie take ed for example

they are in a different avairy... well the male lived in it for a few month about 3 years ago but apart from that it a new environment.

when i say bullying i mean him going for her feet out and pulling her off the perch (yest drawing a small amount of blood on her leg) but then he leaves her alone till she gets back up lol she just trying to stay out of his way

im getting some massive avairys built at the hotel soon so am hoping with a bigger avairy she will have more space to get away as until they settle

hello!!

i put an old male harris (9 years) in with a quasi mature female back in 2000 . the two were introduced on jesses then the male was placed into the aviary three weeks before the female.

the aviary was a sunlight and seclusion job.

they hatched and reared three harrises sucessfully.

as a footnote the my male harris was super tame before he went into the breeding pen when he cam out after only three months he was as wild as hell! he had been in a moulting chamber alone previously for longer and had never needed much reclaiming.

best of luck with your harrises!
